John Ingle Lee - two paintings

[The Gardener's Daughter] late 1860's
oil on canvas
9 1/4 x 7 1/4"
The same girl appears in this work and it is thought she may be the artist's wife, and the man tending the ivy, the artist himself.
.

[Home] 1869
oil on canvas
9 1/4 x 7 1/4"
fl. 1869 - 1891
London painter of genre subjects who exhibited at the RA (six pictures from 1878 - 80)and elsewhere. He lived in Adelaide Road, NW London before moving to Hampstead Hill. The Gardener's Daughter shows the influence of D G Rossetti who he may have known, though he is not the same (though they may be related as they lived nearby in London) as the originally Liverpool Pre-Raph artist by the same name.
