Henry Silkstone Hopwood

Born at Markfield near Leicester and studied at Manchester School of Art, as well as training with a firm of lithographers. He travelled the world as a deckhand on a tall ship, and produced many on board studies. His work is very diverse including interior and exterior scenes, studies of wildlife including ducks and farm animals. He was taught by Bouguereau in Paris where he made friends with other artists from the Staithes Group

where he spent many Summers. During the Winter months they migrated to Spence Ingall's house in North Africa.
