Super drawing: BIG band and lots of hangers-on. Those children look neglected, so it is not surprising that Dickens wanted Barnard to illustrate some of his work.

Neglected certainly - but they look happy. Its amazing to me how children can make something out of so little. I wonder if a lot of modern children are so different - better clothes certainly but left for hours in front of their xbox / tv and fed from McDonalds.
