Jack Yeats was Irish, never British! Ireland is not now, nor never has been part of Britain, either politically or geographically. Classifying Irish writers & painters as British, which on first sight seems arrogant in the extreme, does in fact, hide a deep seated inferiority complex, IMO of course! As Oscar Wilde put it: "I am not British, I am Irish, which is quite another thing." Jack Yeats was no more British than he was French or Spanish!
