John Frederick Lewis photograph

My friend Enzie on her lovely Orientalist Gallery blog often features work by this significant artist
1805 - 1876.
Lewis was a painter in oils and watercolours of animals, Spanish and Eastern subjects. He travelled a great deal and spent 11 years in R%ome and 10 years in Cairo.
Though yhis albumen print seems to have been taken in London he still assumed the dress. In those days he was one of those Englishmen who had gone 'native' as Kipling and others described.
