Edward Thompson Davis - The Remorseful Lovers

pencil, watercolour and bodycolour on paper
17½ x 13½ in.

This talented but short lived artist trained at the Birmingham School of Design, presumably about the same time as his exact contemporary Edward Burne-Jones, who attended evening classes there in the late 1840s. He lived all his working life in Worcester, but died in Italy where he had gone for the sake of his health. He exhibited nineteen genre subjects at the Royal Academy between 1854 and 1867.
