Norman Cornish

 


'Hanging out the Washing.' (c1950s) Norman Cornish was born in Spennymoor, a mining town in County Durham. He started work as a miner in 1933, at the age of 14, and would continue to work in the pits for 33 years, retiring from the mines to become a full-time artist in 1966.
