John Linnell

[Fine Evening After Rain] 1820

1792 - 1882.

Painted after the artist had completed a months tour of Wales in the summer of 1812 after a watercolour study he made near Dollydellan. It was much admired and the artist is known to have made at least seven copies (of which this above is the first). It was commissioned in 1819 by a Mr Tomkinson (believed to be a piano maker or dealer). It was painted in return for a piano (valued at 42 gns).
