1867
oil on canvas
A very popular picture that helped to make Holl's name as an artist when it was exhibited (along with Faces in the Fire) at the RA in 1867. The colour tones were particularly remarked on along with the handling of the face. The model is thought to have been Phyllis Holl, the artist's youngest daughter - reputedly sketched after a bilious attack.
