[G F Watts - photograph of him in his studio]
Watts Gallery has acquired an extraordinary collection of over 4,000 historic photographs from one of its trustees, Professor Rob Dickins, CBE. Consisting of images acquired from the collection of the late Jeremy Maas and Dickins’s own acquisitions gives a unique picture of the world that G. F. Watts inhabited and the figures with which he rubbed shoulders.
You know Phillip, when more an more paintings were hanging in my studio than in galleries or homes, I felt like such a looser. This is until I saw the studios of the old masters. There space was just as much filled with finished paintings that were waiting for a home to go to.
ReplyDeleteThis mus be why I love looking at artist's studios!

What I think surprised me was the size of the canvases, I don't state sizes and I hadn't realised how big some of his pictures are.
