Charles Edward Perugini - Portrait of a young woman, possibly Kate Perugini

signed with monogram (lower right)
pencil on paper
44 x 39cm (17 5/16 x 15 3/8in).

Sold for £3,840 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

The subject of the present lot is possibly the artist's wife Kate Perugini, as depicted in Portrait of Kate Periguni (Sotheby's, London, 15 December 2005) and Portrait of Kate Dickens (Parke-Bernet, 25 January 1980). She was the daughter of Charles Dickens and while her likeness to the girl in the present lot is not absolute, she is certainly the same girl as depicted in Girl Reading (1879, Phillips, London, 16 December 1997) and Idle moments (date unknown).

Kate Perugini is known to have sat for her husband on a number of occasions and also most famously for Millais in The Black Brunswicker (1860).
