James Charles

1851 - 1906.
At first painted portraits, later landscapes and rustic genre subjects. Studied at Heatherley's School, then at the RA Schools from 1872 and in Paris. Exhibited at the RA. Visited Italy and influenced by his time in France was one of the first to practice plein-air style in Britain.
