Richard Redgrave - Study for the Outcast

c. 1851
oil on canvas
A study for his famous painting exhibited in 1851. This was a popular 19th C theme in paintings, the 'wayward' daughter and the stern, unbending father, despite the urgent pleas of his family.

I like all the stern, unbending wood in this one, speaking of 19th century themes. This painting is really full of life and emotion.

Thank you, according to my notes the picture is a biblical scene of casting out (by Abraham) too but I can't see enough detail.
