James Jebusa Shannon - Blessed Are They

Mainly known for his portraits, concerning which he was often compared favoutablt to John Singer Sergeant, he also painted religious subjects. This is unfinished. It is believed thr haloed and wimple'd figure is a portrait of Violet, Duchess of Rutland (1856 - 1937) a prominent aesthete and intellectual who was also an artist. Shannon painted several portraits of her and her children.
