Percy Hague Jowett



1882–1955

Signed and dated 1915; oil on board, 16 × 18 ins

Jowett was a Yorkshire born artist who studied at Leeds and the Royal College of Art
where he won the Prix de Rome, taking him to Italy. He spent much of his life
teaching art and worked with a number of influential figures including Henry
Moore and Gilbert Spencer. He exhibited widely including two solo shows at the
Fine Art Society in the 1920s.

I believe so, though I couldn't find much about it. It was certainly a popular theme at the time. I wonder if they made Angel dolls? Watched Miss Potter last night and thought that was rather wonderful. I lived in the Lake District for some years.

Miss Potter was charming...Didn't you just loved the clever animation?
There are angel "creche" figures, although they are not considered dolls for the collector. I have a whole post on Nativity/Creche figures on one of my earlier posts, ( Jan. or Feb.) you may like to check it out. There are some wonderful pictures.
