The clock here is a very accurately portrayed American one, probably by the Jerome or New Haven companies. Spencelayh includes hints of the paper label stuck into the case behind the pendulum and a tinted print stuck to the back of the lower part of the glass door. The clock design was probably made over quite a long period in the later C19. Another such clock is shown in 'The Jumble Sale'.
