since about Victorian times (roughly 1837 on)
I know all of Abraham Solomon's famous works, but I have never seen this one. Shame... it looks like a hoot. His younger brother was much more famous, but not necessarily as good as Abraham.
Rebecca painted as well. Such an interesting family and I so sympathise with Simeon. Burne-Jones was one of the very few people who would actually talk to him after his offence.
I only mentioned the two boys because most people don't know Rebecca Solomon's art. But I am glad you raised Rebecca's name as well. Years ago I wrote one chapter in a book of biographies called "Forever Eve: An Anthology Celebrating NCJWV 75th Anniversary 2002". It is in the National Library of Australia. Believe it or not, my chapter was on Rebecca Solomon!
What a coincidence. You've probably seen this brilliant site but others may not:http://simeonsolomon.com/rebeccasolomon.aspx
