Constance was a terrific woman.

I still think of her as a pioneering feminist and liberal, not as an easily-influenced woman involved with magic and the occult. Even when Oscar mixed with a more theatrical bohemian set, their marriage would have survived in good health.

But his obsession with the rather shallow nasty Bosie, the court case, the scandal, the hard labour and gaol time damaged their family life. The line "by breaking her oath she might have actually doomed them both" sounds like newspaper hype to me.

Sorry a lot of comments went to my old email. Think I've fixed it. I completely agree, though not to my taste, her involvement with the Golden Dawn shows a strength of belief since Oscar wasn't keen.
