A very interesting interpretation of Venus. Sexy. Who says the Victorians were all stuffy? As long as the subject was classical, they could let their hair down a bit, eh?

I don't feature it much as it doesn't interest me as a theme but nudity, particularly in a classical context, was popular in Victorian paintings. People don't change much!

What was it about this one that you liked?

I didn't have any examples of his work and he is a good painter. Look at the landscape behind them and the vase of flowers. Excellent work.

Oh, I agree. The landscape to me seems to call back to middle age style in a way. This is a remarkable painting at a variety of levels.
