Fantastic image... and early! Of course I knew that pleasure piers were often late Victorian, but deep down I assumed the crowded family day trippers were an Edwardian phenomenon.
I think they really took off a few years later with the 'extras' like the machines and food.
Candy floss, I just discovered, was invented in 1897 but came in at the Worlds Fair in 1904.
