[The Valley of Vision]
Pencil, red chalk and Watercolour
dates to about 1910
Illustrates Dante's Purgatorio Cantos VII-VIII in which the poet is shown a 'flowery valley' populated by 'many famous spirits' and watched over by two Angels dressed in green. The landscape was based on Minchinhampton Common, close to his home in Amberley, Stroud using local villagers as models.

Painted landscapes. Studied at the Birmingham School of Art, taught there and was a founder member of the Birmingham Group. Born in Birmingham, lived (see above).
