1787 - 1868.
London sporting, battle and historical painter. Largely self-taught though had a few lessons from Benjamin Marshall. At the age of 13 he was with Astley's Circus - managed by his Uncle. He became very proficient at painting Horses. Exhibited at the RA and elsewhere. Became known as the pre-eminent painter of battle scenes but also specialised in painting race horses. Frederick Herring Snr was one of his pupils as did William Barraud.
