[The Annunciation - "Hail thou Art Highly Favoured" 1900
oil on canvas
72 x 45"
This seems to have the same name but is larger with more details:
and is dated 1899 when it was also exhibited at the RA
so I am not quite sure of the relationship between the two. This 'version was sold by Sotherby's in 1996 with the subject taken from the Gospel of Luke 1:28, with the Virgin Mary receiving the news that she is to become the Mother of Jesus Christ. The Madanno Lilies are symbols of the Annunciation withe Doves representing the Holy Spirit. It was exhibited in 1899 at the RA and it was published widely as a photogravure by the Berlin Photographic Company in 1900.
Artnet seems to show the two versions.
