A superb photograph. As a Victorianist I thank my lucky stars everyday that street photographers took what probably seemed at the time, fairly dull pictures, but which are, in fact, utterly priceless fpr building up an image of what places looked like and their atmospheres.

I always find it touching, too, with photographs such as this, and those of Thomson, that it is probably the only thing left behind of these people that tell us they ever existed, unlike today, where most people are in hundreds of pictures.

Fantastic blog, I check it every day.
