Look at what you find in blogs :) The text said Mahler's The Ring was first performed there, with Mahler himself conducting, on his ONE visit to England. Wouldn't it have been rather special to have been there!

Oh yes Helen. That was in 1892 and Ralph Vaughan Williams, "staggered home in a daze and could not sleep for two nights." after seeing him conduct Tristram. I'm a baby boomer but luckily my parents gave me a love of opera and the classics. Mixes oddly with Jimi Hendrix sometimes though.
