John Stirling

[The Sermon] 1859
the full title seems to have been 'Scottish Presbyterians in a Country Parish Church - the Sermon'. It may have been painted earlier than 1859, as, assuming I have the right picture, it was exhibited at the RA in 1855.

1820 - 1871,

also called 'The Revival Sermon'

by George Washington Wilson

.
1820 - 1871.
Painted portraits, genre, fairy-tale, literary and Moroccan subjects. He seems to have lived in London and Aberdeen and in 1868-9 visited Morrocco. Exhibited at the RA and was noted by Ruskin.

For your interest, I have added some more accurate biographical information on John Stirling at the National Portrait Gallery website. I own a drawing done by him in 1865 and thus my interest.
