Price Realized £15,535
signed with initials and dated 'VB 1942' (lower right) oil on canvas 21 x 17 in. (53.3 x 43.2 cm.)
This characteristic late flowerpiece by Vanessa Bell was painted in her attic studio at Charleston. The vase is an eighteenth century faience polychrome drugs jar (still in the house) which appears in several still lifes by Bell; the flowers would have come from the garden at Charleston.
