Frank Moss Bennett - King Charles II admiring the Royal Sovereign

The ship, for which a model is shown in the present work,was designed by Phineas Pett and was one of the first 'three-deckers'. It has been suggested that the present work is set in Hampton Court in 1638, the characters being (from left to right) Lord Derby, Thomas Killigrew, Charles I, Phineas Pett, the Duke of Newcastle and the Duke of Buckingham.
